In honor of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) designating September 29, as International Food Loss and Waste Awareness Day, we hosted “Disco Soup,” an event in which food that was about to be discarded was saved and all participants enjoyed making soup together to music like at a disco.

This was our first attempt to host a Disco Soup that virtually connected small disco soups held in various locations at the same time as a countermeasure against infectious diseases, but the event was successful and three locations in Okinawa Prefecture, seven locations in Japan, and three overseas locations joined.

Through art, music, and tasty soups, we were able to raise awareness of the concerns of food loss and shortage which are linked to a variety of factors.
